An American novelist Essay Example for Free

An American writer Essay An American writer, student of history, and artistic antiquarian that was Alfred Bertram Guthrie, Jr. Having indicated an amazing composing style and because of his adoration for Montana he proceeded to win the Pulitzer Prize for his fiction The Way West in 1959. This book primarily discusses Dick Summer’s come back to the Wild West to manage a few pilgrims on the hard excursion to Oregon through a perilous path (Joseph, Guthrie, Peter, 1959, 18). A. B. Guthrie composed with an interesting feeling of style, aptitude, shrewd straightforwardness and expressive opinion and these are for the most part obvious in the opening, the finding, the settling, the developing and the abusing of the American West. At the point in his life when he was just a college graduate in news coverage, he spearheaded the hard information that has helped youthful writers rise to more noteworthy statures. Guthrie gave quite a bit of himself and his chance to prompt youthful authors similarly as Professor Theodore Morrison, his guide, accomplished for him. Guthrie’s capacity to focus on chronicled precision, his affection for nature, an unfailing ear for tongue and sensible discourse and the aptitude to make extraordinary characters that perusers effectively adjust to think about are the qualities that put him beside different authors. The uniqueness of his capacity to outline distinctive, firmly compacted scenes in which those characters intermix is unadulterated acumen (Joseph, Guthrie, Peter, 1959, p. 31). In characterizing the American experience, Guthrie’s The Big Sky is a major guide in endeavoring to comprehend the contention during this time. It gives enlightening proof of the demeanor of pioneers, the availability of the pioneers, the compassion for the land that hide trappers and backwoodsmen had during that time and how all the differing individuals converged to shape a country. Guthrie’s most remarkable achievement is exhibited in his capacity to attest the range, multifaceted nature, and the force of the colonization of the Missouri and Columbia waste bowls by genuine individuals which was his huge subject (Joseph, Guthrie, Peter, 1959, p. 45) . Manifest destiny: was it really imperialism? Essay

Dominion is, by definition, the expansion of rule or impact by one government, country or society over another; show predetermination is the conviction held by numerous Americans during the 1840s that the United States was â€Å"destined† to extend over the landmass. This conviction of â€Å"destined expansion† was the same old thing to America’s pioneers for their vision of the United States when they previously settled it was that of a country that extended from the Atlantic to the Pacific. The American individuals themselves had basic explanations behind their imperialistic activities too, generally financial and political. During the victory of show fate the US procured Texas, Oregon and California. Americans tooled over the West like a forceful imperialistic realm coming to over unclaimed terrains loaded with Native Americans and Mexicans so as to achieve their political and financial predetermination. Animated by the American Revolution, Americans wanted to grow its regions. In February of 1821, Congress sanctioned the Transcontinental Treaty, which totally rejected Texas from American domain. American’s emotions towards Texas immediately changed when they understood that cotton thrived on the Texas fields. The South immediately looked into the land. Mexican specialists even offered free land to gatherings of pilgrims following the bargain and by 1830 there were 20,000 white Americans and 2,000 slaves living in Texas. In 1836 Texas pronounced their autonomy from Mexico and after ten years was attached into the US. The extension of Texas had been a discussion for a considerable length of time in view of the subjection issue. Subjugation was another issue that further energized expansionism, as the North and South each needed the country to concede new expresses that bolstered its section’s financial, political, and slave arrangements. The United States had no motivation to attach Texas other than the way that they needed the rich land and more votes in Congress. They took cover behind the possibility of â€Å"Manifest Destiny† however in all actuality each area needed the land for its own motivations. We even battled a war of it. The superfluous extension of Texas is an ideal case of government in the United States. The development battle in America during the nineteenth century extended as far as possible west to Oregon. Oregon was a domain that was imparted to the British under the Treaty of 1818. Americans compelled the British to surrender theirâ claim to Oregon domain. This permitted the Americans to satisfy their Manifest Destiny and own territory right to the Pacific Ocean. Relatively few individuals lived in Oregon previously yet unexpectedly, in the mid 1840’s, a tremendous convoy of individuals started to move to Oregon, prodded on by show predetermination. The land in Oregon was fruitful and the hide abundant. This outing to Oregon got known as the Oregon Trail. These pioneers battled little wars with the Native Americans along the course, argueing over posession of land once they showed up. Numerous Americans took their property in Oregon by the method of the weapon. They pointed their weapons at everything that moved so as to get their territory. This is colonialism, how the administration offered consent to slaughter thousands without giving any acknowledgment at all to who was living there previously, to who’s home that may have been. Another case of colonialism in the US can be seen by taking a gander at the manner in which we took care of California. California was actually the way in to the Pacific and the exchange courses with Asia and China. West Coast harbors, for example, San Diego, San Francisco and the Strait of Juan de Fuca were considered â€Å"the keys to the trade† and the Americans needed them. A convoy of American pioneers set out on the California trail and, as the Mexicans had expected, the pilgrims brought word back and the US presently needed to attach California. President Polk had sent an emissary to Mexico City trying to buy California and different pieces of the Southwest. In May 1846 Mexico rejected the offer. This refusal was one factorâ€along with the Texas annexationâ€that prompted the Mexican War. This land was not our own, we reserved no option to battle a war over it. That is colonialism; the broadening a nation’s power by regional obtaining, forcibly now and again. America wound up winning the Mexican War and securing Texas and California alongside all the exchange courses, and it was incredible for our economy yet the end doesn't legitimize the methods. To finish up Manifest fate, the American strategy of obtaining certain decision regions, can be named as simply forceful dominion for that is the thing that it is. We needed land and we got it since we did. We stomped on over Native Americans and Mexicans just to build up exchange courses and to increase political force. At long last we expanded our fringes by about 66%â through show fate, the regulation that was no more that a reason for Americans to become forceful radicals.

For those impacted by Hurricane Michael (and other disasters)

For those impacted by Hurricane Michael (and other disasters) Hurricane Michael, which struck the United States last week, has deprived thousands of   people of power and property across the American Southeast. Meanwhile, according to ReliefWeb, there is flooding across Latin America, tropical cyclones (and military conflicts) in the Middle East, and an earthquake in Haiti. And, while our Early Action  deadlines are approaching, these catastrophes have left many of our prospective students in these regions with much more immediately important things to worry about than their application to MIT. These kinds of events happen,01 And, with accelerating climate change, they happen more often, and with greater severity. and so earlier today, we published an FAQ to explain what to do if your application is disrupted by catastrophic events. We have blogged about specific disasters before, such as Elizabeths post regarding Hurricane Maria last year, but we wanted to clarify our standing policy for any applicants around the world whose timely and complete applications are prevented by crises beyond their control. In brief, we want to make sure that any applicants so affected, now or in the future, remember that: You should focus on taking care of yourself, your family, your community, and your safety. You will not be penalized in the application process because of delays caused by catastrophic events. We try to be as flexible as possible in these situations. When you’re able to do so, reach out to us at 617-253-3400 or email us at [emailprotected] We’ll be here to talk to you and figure out a way to make sure we get your application and supporting materials. If the application fee poses a financial hardship, we’ll waive it. There is no benefit or advantage to applying to MIT Early Action, and you should feel at ease waiting until Regular Action if that allows you to get the rest of your life in order first. On behalf of everyone at MIT Admissions, I want to reassure you how much we want you to take care of  you,  and you loved ones, before you worry about college applications.  As Stu once wrote, we want young people to be students and community members first, and applicants second.  Everyone here wants to make sure our application process is as fair as possible, and well do what we can to accommodate you in dire circumstances. Take care, and all best. And, with accelerating climate change, they happen more often, and with greater severity. back to text ?

March For Our Lives Versus Trumps America - Free Essay Example

Sample details Pages: 7 Words: 2064 Downloads: 2 Date added: 2019/04/05 Category Politics Essay Level High school Tags: Donald Trump Essay Did you like this example? March For Our Lives was founded in a living room and by teenagers coping with the trauma of a mass shooting. They created a movement to literally fight for young peoples lives by bringing them together and preaching the importance of voting. After dealing with tragedy, most people take their grief and deal with it privately. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "March For Our Lives Versus Trumps America" essay for you Create order Opponents of the movement say the teenagers behind it politicized their situation and are the pawns of leftists and democrats, however, what people like Emma Gonzalez, Jackie Corin, David Hogg and Cameron Kasky have done was get the people politics affects the most, young people, ready and excited to vote. The young minds behind the movement were not the ones who politically publicized it; the adults who disagree with them fall guilty of doing so. In Washington, there were two protests: a protest of the lack of gun laws and a protest of that protest. Two Trump supporters, Eric Ciabottonia and John Bolduc, spoke to CNN about their opinions. According to Bolduc, Memorials are OK. Its when you start to militarize and politicize a tragedy thats when I start to have a problem. (CNN) Interestingly, the party those specific young adults follow created the politicization of Marjory Stoneman Douglas event and the march itself. The teens have been constant victims of manipulation of video: Emma Gonzalez was accused of ripping the Constitution and the video looked believable to anyone who wanted to dislike her. In reality, she was tearing apart a target made out of paper. David Hogg has been accused of being a crisis actor, someone who acts as a real victim during a tragedy, but only to prove himself as a Stoneman Douglas Eagle and not a crisis actor from California. All of the teens behind the movement are ostracized on social media fo r their age, gender or both. With these fallacies being spread, many Conservatives believed them. These lies comprised of hate are what the media speaks on. Yes, the march was covered heavily. So was the Right Wing wave of false truths about teenagers and their movement. The immature adults who politicized the march were the ones who created the supposed Liberal agenda that the young activists were pawns of. During the teens first event after the march called Road to Change, a country wide road tour where the leaders of March Four Our Lives visited different states and helped register people young and old to vote in the midterms. While in Texas, a place where public carrying of a gun is legal, the young adults registered people of all ages eighteen and older. As a group of protesters arrived, they knew that a conversation was going to be needed. Matt Deitsch explained that David Hogg, a member of MFOL and the topic of slander for this specific conservative man, was able to explain that he wasnt anti-gun, his family waslaw enforcement agents, gun owners and registered Republicans, and added that he didnt want to take away the mans guns (aplus). This was not covered by many media outlets that can be easily and quickly accessed. Any positive conversation held between opposing viewpoints, in this case Liberal and Conservative, is not entertaining nor captivating so news channels like Fox wil l not air those stories. Instead of airing the truthful, encouraging and kind stories about March For Our Lives or the brains behind it, they give airtime to people like Tomi Lahren. Lahren is a right wing Conservative who commentates on current political news. Unfortunately for the kids who speak up about the need for new gun laws, Tomi Lahrens voice echos over theirs. But unfortunately for Tomi, she unknowingly proved that when some Conservatives dont have an argument against stricter or newer gun laws and restrictions they start accusing the Left of unrelated things in order to call their hate as fact. In a Right Wing Watch News segment, Lahren said They arent interested in a few more laws! Theyre interested in eliminating the Second Amendment all together. Thats the real goal and even that would solve nothing (youtube.com). Previously stated, David Hogg expressed that their plans were not to take away the second amendment nor guns. The media, specifically Fox News, needs viewers. People are not going to watch two opponents sharing values and shaking hands. They want to watch someone or even multiple people arguing their side and using hand gestures, a loud voice and a tone that makes one sound professional. A simple Google search would prove all of Tomi Lahrens claims to be incorrect and blatant lies. All she expressed on camera was her partys fears. The right wing Conservatives do not want their guns to be taken out of their possession and they want the Second Amendment to stay in place because thats their whole argument. The fallacies and false knowledge spoken by a woman dressed in an American flag hoodie were the ones in the Liberal agenda that the children of Marjory Stoneman Douglas were accused of spreading. The irony is that the March For Our Lives founders never once said they wanted to deprive people of the right to protect themselves nor did they say that they planned on removing the Second Amendment. Because Fox News gives Tomi Lahren an outlet larger than the Eagles, she is able to reach a wider demographic. Shes on a network that anyone with a television can watch. The March For Our Lives founders have had some interviews, but not like Tomi or people like her. They have social media which helps them reach out to a younger demographic, but arent always the ones who ha ve the legal ability to cast a vote. The media failed the youth as it puts the children of Stoneman Douglas in a bad light and gave leeway to a spiteful, hateful and simply incorrect woman to spread her message of grievance about the same kids the media ignored. The agenda the young adults are accused of spreading was created by the media and for the media, not by the victims of it. The event that occured on February 14, 2018 left an entire school divided. You were either a survivor or a victim. Seventeen innocent lives were uprooted from their homes and moved to graveyards. Those are the victims. The survivors were left with hurt, anger and trauma. What did they do with their emotions? They fought back against the cause of their schoolmates untimely death. Like Alex Jones did to the Newtown victims, many accused the Parkland shooting to be fake or a publicity stunt. This fueled the teens more because they had already lost their friends, they were not going to lose against bigotry. They were also said to be uneducated on what they believed because of their ages. Radio host Kevin McCullough stated Even though they have a little more than a junior high level of educationthe Leftist mediacontinue to use them to advance their socialist utopia ideas (usatoday.com). The young adults have proven themselves more mature and educated on the topic of gun and gun violence t han some politicians by being willing to have an open dialogue with them. Those same politicians literally closed their doors in their faces when they tried to speak with them. That was not a push from any Leftist group except their own. The founders of March For Our Lives were smart enough to take their anger and use it for a progressive movement, they are definitely smart enough to ignore people like McCullough or Lahren who simply are not aware of what is truly happening. A large reason the right wing has such a passionate belief about guns, whether or not they have the truth about them is out of question because clearly the facts have been misconstrued, is because of the NRA. The NRA stands for National Rifle Association. The NRA endorses politicians and gives them money to their campaign based on their stance on the Second Amendment. The money the NRA can put into an election could sway it in a different direction. during the 2016 election, the NRA and its affiliates spent a record of $54m to secure Republican control of the White House and Congress, including $30.3m to help elect Donald Trump (theguardian). Politicians, primarily Republicans, are commonly endorsed by the NRA. Those same politicians, along with the NRA as a whole, are the ones offering thoughts and prayers instead of action. That very sentence is what inspired the teens of Parkland to start March For Our Lives in the first place. They were sick of the cycle that the NRA has encourag ed for years: a mass shooting, thoughts and prayers, forgetting it ever happened, another mass shooting. The politicians who take the blood money happily are afraid of the NRA. They do not want to lose the trust of the powerful group of people, the promotion from the people nor do they want to lose their money. Without their money they have no campaign. During a CNN town hall, Marco Rubio, an acceptor of the NRAs donation to his campaign and Floridas Senator, was faced by Cameron Kasky who at the time was a junior in high school. This is about people who are for making a difference and people who are against it and prefer money. So, Senator Rubio, can you tell me right now that you will not accept a single donation from the NRA in the future? (CNN). As Rubio stammers his way through the question and tries his best to give as little of an answer as possible, he finally says people buy into my agenda ¦ (CNN). Marco Rubio confirmed he was afraid of the NRA by wording his answer to Cameron so it would leave the NRA out completely. With such a hold on the Republican party, the National Rifle Association adds fuel to the gun control fire by giving money to the people who are not morally just and are controlled by checks from the bank. Though they may not realize it, but the NRA and the politicians that take their money are against schoo l kids and their safety. If they are not willing to change unsafe laws, they are against childrens lives. Those same people are criticizing the left for supposedly using kids for their agenda, but why should they care? They seem to think that a piece of metal is more valuable than one of those propagandic childrens lives anyways. From February 14, 2018 until the current day, the Parkland teens have been under the microscope. Theyve been called bullies for ignoring or picking on the shooter before the massacre. Theyve been called liars by people who disagree with them. Theyve been accused of faking this whole shooting for sympathy and to boost the lefts chance of winning back the government. They have been personally attacked by adults about things going on in their personal lives. Theyve dealt with all of these things on top of the trauma of grief of losing schoolmates, friends and teachers. While being teenagers, the courageous youth of Florida has dealt with a tragedy no one should ever have to go through. The Liberal agenda the activists have been accused of spreading did not exist to the extent it has been portrayed to be before the kids rose up. Adults who have a different opinion and a weaker argument created this idea of a Liberal agenda that differs from everything March For Our Lives stands for. The blatant lies about their goals include but are not limited to: March For Our Lives taking guns away from all Americans, March For Our Lives banning all guns and March For Our Lives removing the Second Amendment. Instead of being afraid of children who some Republicans call uneducated, maybe politicians should open up their doors and their minds to new ideas and new voices. Generation Z is the generation of mass shootings. They have grown up practicing active shooter drills, but no one with any say in Congress will get anything done except put blame on others. The leaders of March For Our Lives are not Liberal pawns. They are setting an example for other young adults to speak up about things that matter. They are getting kids excited to vote. They are changing the next generation. Fight for your lives before its someone elses job. Emma Gonzalez

We will write a custom essay sample on A Yellow Raft in Blue Water or any similar topic only for you Order Now Over time one can learn whether or not he or she can trust or believe another will hold that confidence. If that certitude is shattered, it takes time again to reconcile and to earn it back. In Michael Dorris’s novel, A Yellow Raft in Blue Water, Ida is a girl who entrusts in her young Aunt Clara with secrets from school to boys. When Clara reveals Ida’s hope about Willard Pretty Dog, the trust is broken; despite this, Ida still helps Clara and also creates herself a new certitude through Clara’s daughter, Christine. Clara comes to live with Ida and her family to take care of Mama and instantly Ida becomes infatuated with her. Clara is the opposite of Ida: pretty, little, and neat. Ida acts very friendly and giving towards Clara. After a while she admits that she â€Å"confided my secrets and sought her advice† (Dorris, 303). Ida even felt â€Å"encouraged by her sureness† (304) with what she has told her; especially when Ida tells Clara about her crush and hope of Willard Pretty Dog. Clara makes Ida feel good about herself with the advice she gives her. Ida feels as if she has a friend that she can trust and a person who can be a role model. Ida has created her certitude through Clara. Clara has brought shame to the family and is pregnant with Ida’s father’s child. In order to hide this shame Clara came up with the idea of Ida pretending to be with child. Clara mentioning this hurts Ida but what hurts Ida even more is the reason behind the story that makes it more plausible to Mama and Papa. Clara tells them that â€Å"No one would be surprised. Everyone’s aware she’s after Willard Pretty Dog† (309). Ida is shocked at Clara’s betrayal of revealing her hopes. Clara’s remark does not only break Ida’s certitude in her, but also shows the low inclination Clara has on Ida. How to cite A Yellow Raft in Blue Water, Essay examples

Tackling transportation problems around the world free essay sample

Electric vehicles have been around for quite a while most prominently the late 90’s with General Motors (GM) EV1 trials though it didn’t have the intended results and marketability, so it was eventually dropped. The intro goes here. Electric vehicles (EV) have come a long way in the last decade to become cleaner vehicles even before they come off the assembly line. With that in mind EV on average produce, more carbon emissions than their counterpart internal combustion engine vehicles (ICEV) â€Å"global warming emissions at this early stage usually exceed those of conventional vehicles. † (Nealer, Reichmuth, and Anair) And that is true for electric vehicles as recent as 2010 even with that when you’re looking at the outside that could be one point to not consider electric vehicles to not be quite what they’re sold at as a clean vehicle to better counter carbon emissions as well as global warming to the general consumer. With that in mind, it’s obvious to any consumer that with the uphill battle that electric vehicles had in early makes in manufacturing that they have come a long way as well as getting better every year.Electric vehicles also in being from as stated above are now more environmentally friendly they also have higher efficiency with their electric motors compared to an ICEV and with a big margin separating the two it looks like EV are taking the lead and ICEV are lagging and may never catch up. With an example â€Å"putting out the pollution of a gas vehicle that gets 135 mpg† (Hirsch) at their best and â€Å"the equivalent of a 35 to 36 mpg car† (Hirsch) at their worse wh ich takes into account the terrain as well as where the power comes from that create the energy that the EV use for propulsion. Which brings up another good point that is used to disused people from purchasing and using electric cars. Where does the energy come from that goes into electric vehicles? â€Å"Coal was responsible for a majority of electricity generation at the start of the century.† (Muyskens, Keating, and Granados) But coal has been steadily falling ever since and has been lapsed â€Å"Natural gas-powered 34 percent of the countrys electricity last year, passing coal as well as nuclear.† (Muyskens, Keating, and Granados) Which is a better alternative to coal as a power source as well as nuclear which creates no carbon emissions? As well there have been forward movements to implements more renewable energy producers of power threw out the United States.

Solutions for Teaching in an Overcrowded Classroom

Solutions for Teaching in an Overcrowded Classroom One of the biggest issues facing schools and teachers today is overcrowding. A combination of an increasing population and a decrease in funding has caused class sizes to soar. In an ideal world, class sizes would be capped at 15 to 20 students. Unfortunately, many classrooms now regularly exceed 30 students, and it is not uncommon for there to be more than 40 students in a single class. Classroom overcrowding has sadly become the new normal. The issue is unlikely to go away anytime soon, so schools and teachers must create workable solutions to make the best out of a bad situation. Problems Created by Overcrowded Classrooms Teaching in an overcrowded classroom can be frustrating, overwhelming and stressful. An overcrowded classroom presents challenges that can feel nearly impossible to overcome, even to the  most effective teachers. Increasing class sizes is a sacrifice many schools have to make in order to keep their doors open in an era where schools are underfunded. Overcrowded classrooms create a number of problems for modern school systems, including: There is not enough of the teacher to go around. Students perform better when the teacher is able to give one-on-one or small-group instruction on a regular basis. As classroom size increases, this becomes increasingly difficult to do. Overcrowding increases classroom discipline issues. Large classes packed with students provide more opportunities for personality conflicts, tension, and general disruptive behavior. Even the best teachers find it difficult to manage an overcrowded classroom successfully and can find themselves spending more time managing their classroom than they do teaching. Struggling students fall further behind. Average and below-average students will struggle to advance in an overcrowded classroom. These students need more direct instruction, one-on-one instructional time and minimal distractions to maximize their learning potential. Standardized test scores suffer. While many teachers would argue that there is an overemphasis placed on test scores especially in America’s public schools, the chance of successfully improving proficiency on a standardized test decreases as the number of students in the classroom increases. The overall noise level is increased. This is an expected result when you increase the number of students in the classroom. Louder classrooms translate to distractions making it more difficult for students to learn and for teachers to teach. Teacher stress is increased often leading to teacher burnout. More students translate to more stress. Many excellent teachers are opting to leave the profession because it is not worth the stresses they deal with on a daily basis. Overcrowding leads to less access to equipment and technology. Space is already at a premium for many schools and there often is not enough room to accommodate specialties such as science or a computer lab. District Solutions to Overcrowded Classrooms Increasing class sizes should be the last resort for any school district. It should never be a starting point. There are many other ways to trim a budget. If all other options are exhausted, then schools may be forced to enact what is known as a reduction in force, where teachers and staff are laid off for budgetary reasons and class sizes subsequently increase. Even with tight budgets, districts can take certain actions to ease overcrowding issues: Take advantage of ability grouping. Schools should use benchmark assessments to determine student placement. Class sizes should be kept relatively small for those who perform unsatisfactorily. Students who are strong academically have less to lose in an overcrowded classroom. Provide teachers with an aide. Providing a teacher with an aide can help decrease the burden on the teacher. Aides receive a lower salary, so placing them in overcrowded classrooms would improve the student/teacher ratios while keeping costs low. Lobby for more funding. Schools administrators and teachers should regularly lobby their state and local representatives for more funding. They should keep them apprised of issues overcrowding is causing. Administrators can also invite them to spend time at their school so that they can see the impact of overcrowding. Solicit local donations. Private schools are able to keep their doors open due to tuition and to a large extent by soliciting donations. In tough financial times, public school administrators should not be afraid to solicit donations either. Teachers across the country have sought and used public donations for everything from technology upgrades to classroom basics like notebooks and paper. Every dollar counts and even garnering enough donations to hire an extra teacher or two each year can make a significant difference. Apply for grants. There are thousands of grant opportunities made available to schools each year. Grants exist for almost everything including technology, supplies, professional development and even teachers themselves. Teacher Solutions to Overcrowded Classrooms Teachers in an overcrowded classroom must be exceptionally organized. They have to be well prepared every day. They must develop a fluid system through trial and error to maximize the time they have with their students. Teachers can generate solutions for overcrowded classrooms by: Creating energetic and engaging lessons: Every lesson must be enticing, energetic and fun. It is easy for students in any class to be distracted and lose interest, but this is especially true in a large classroom. Lessons must be fast-paced, unique and full of attention grabbers. Tutoring struggling students who need more time after school: There simply is not enough time to provide struggling students with the one-on-one time that they need. Tutoring these students two to three times a week after school gives them a better shot at being successful. Assigning seats and rotating when necessary: With a large class, teachers must be structured, and this starts with strategically placed assigned seats. Students who are low academically and/or are behavior issues should be assigned seats toward the front. Students who are high academically and/or are well behaved should be provided seats toward the back. Understanding that the dynamics in an overcrowded classroom will be different: It is essential that teachers understand that there are significant differences in a classroom of 20 students compared to a classroom of 30 or 40. Teachers have no control over how many students are in their classes, so they cannot allow themselves to become stressed due to things that are out of their control. Teachers should understand that they are not going to be able to spend time with each student every day. They should understand that they will not get to know each student on a personal level. That is simply the reality in an overcrowded classroom. Lastly, structure is very important in any classroom but especially so in a classroom with lots of students. Teachers need to establish clear rules and expectations on day one, and then follow through as the year progresses. Clear rules and expectations will help create a much more manageable class- where students know what they are required to do and when- especially an overcrowded one.

Conflict and emotions Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Conflict and emotions - Essay Example When the older brother hears the news, he rushes to see his younger brother at the hospital and realizes that he was married to a man. This was shocking news though it is clear that the older brother already knew about his brother's sexual orientation. The words spoken by the dead brother's lover clearly indicate this: "Forgive yourself for not wanting to know him/after he told you. He did." (1. 34-35). It means that these two brothers were at odds with each other when he came out of the closet. The conflict is all about discrimination and the way people treat those who they consider different. Different doesn't mean bad or evil, it just represents diversity and variety of approaches to life. This is what the poem is trying to tell us. The poem also elucidates the challenges that gay people have to encounter in their desire to live their lives their way. The commitment of a gay couple is shown to be even more intense because there are so many odds against them. The straight brother i s unable to grasp this as he wonders ""How could anyone's commitment be deeper than a husband and wife" (1.28) He cannot fathom the mystery. He goes back to his sheltered life where he knows his children will not be targeted or discriminated against. The same conflict of discrimination runs in the other poem, Tu Do Street but h

Creation Myths Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Creation Myths - Essay Example God then created a beautiful garden Eden so that Adam could live in it. God then brought animals into the garden so that Adam can name them. So it was Adam, who was the first human being, responsible for naming the animals. Since Adam was the sole human being on earth he was given the power to dominate the animals. However, seeing his loneliness and lack of company God created the first woman and named him Eve. Adam and Eve were given the power to control everything on earth that was created from dirt. There was a tree in the center of the garden. Adam and Eve were forbidden by God to touch it. One day a snake entered the garden and tempted Eve to eat a fruit from the tree. The tree was known as the knowledge tree and provided knowledge to distinguish between the good and the evil. By eating the fruit Adam and Eve committed the first sin of disobedience. They failed to obey the order of God and this instilled in their minds a sense of guilt. When God asked Adam if he has eaten the fr uit he put the blame on Eve. â€Å"And the man said, The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate†. (Troyer, 2007, p.105) Similarly Eve blamed the snake for her own act of disobedience. â€Å"And the woman said, The serpent deceived me, and I ate†. ... The first living creature appeared when Ra who was the Egyptian sun god was born out of an egg. He had many names and they symbolize different positions of the sun. He was â€Å"Aten (sun disk), Khepri (the rising sun), Ra (supreme god of Heliopolis), and Atum (the setting sun)†. (The Egyptian Religion and Creation Myth, n.d., p.35) Egypt is a land of â€Å"eternal sunshine† and so it was natural for them to symbolize the sun god as the creator of the universe. The human beings were created from the eye of Ra. The eye got lost and Ra could not find it. His son Shu and daughter Tefnut went to fetch it but failed. There was a struggle between them which caused the eye to shed tears. Human beings were born from the tears. Therefore the eye of Ra symbolizes life. â€Å"The act of bringing the eye back to the creator was equivalent to healing the earth – the restoration of right and order†. (The Egyptian Religion and Creation Myth, n.d., p.33) Ra’s son S hu represented dry air while daughter Tefnut represented moisture. Together they are symbolized in the Egyptian culture as life and justice. In both the mythologies it was the male who first created. Adam and Ra were both representatives of the male. In both cases there is the event of sibling murder. In Egyptian mythology Set killed his brother Osiris while in the Genesis Cain killed his brother and in both cases the reason was jealousy. What role does sex play? After God created Adam and placed him in the Garden of Eden, God brought all the animals into the garden and authorized Adam to name them. So it was Adam who named the animals and not Eve. This authority was given to man by God and so it is more a man’s duty than a woman to fulfill the command of God. Since Adam was created before Eve and so

Zara Competitive Advantage Essay

Zara Competitive Advantage Essay There is a tough competition in clothing retailers. Who has a competitive advantage in clothing retailing will be the winner. Competitive Advantage refers to a companys profit and market share. Offshore supply is one of the processes, which is used generally by clothing retailers to accomplish low labour cost, as the apparel industry is still labour concentrated industry. The supply chain in the apparel industry is compound and lengthy. Barbee and Carlyle (1999,p.85-87) states that the supply chain encompasses all activities associated with the flow and manufacturing of goods, from raw material stage through to the end user, as well as associated information flow. The longer the supply chain the additional complicated it is to handle and the more a company relay on long-range forecasts. Challenging consumers and competitive retailing have produced stress to take action with multiple refreshes per season. The focal point is on replenishment of the exact styles, designs and colors that are selling well, whilst reducing, changing or abandoning those that turn out to be less popular than forecast. This decreases the difficulty of marking down the price of less popular clothing that fails to sell in the forecasted volumes. This trend, when taken to the extreme of compressing design times, multiple refreshes, coupled with very quick response from the supply base, and all done at low cost, describes the so-called Fast Fashion market.( Nebahat Tokatli,2007) Solomon and Robolt(2004) define Fashion as a style that is acknowledged by a great group of people at the given time. They also separate fashion into four catalogues: High Fashion (Couture) Moderate Fashion Budget Fashion Mass Fashion Fashion Life cycle contains the introduction acceptance, culmination and decline of the acceptance of a certain style. The Fashion cycle is not meant for long time, it changes in very short period. It is not compulsory that to introduce fashion and try to encourage consumers buying behavior before the decline stage is very important Fast Fashion as a conception helps to take the market and attract consumer earlier than other competitor by dropping the lead-time in supply chain. CONCEPT OF FAST FASHION: The techniques companies put into practice to reduce the time gap between designing the product and the time of consumption, through product and moving away from the considered seasonal basis called Fast Fashion. It examined that the expansion of fast fashion formulas become visible indicative from a production-driven market to a market-driven characterization of the apparel sector. It is not compulsory that fast fashion is a multipart process, which involves forecast, design, effective supply chain and transportation. Best Practice as the aptitude to do things in the well-organized manner. In other words it is a way of bring about a business function or process that is well thought-out to be greater to all other known methods (Kurian,2004). From past few years, organization attempted to build up their own supply chain strategies to continue to exist in such a ferociously competitive market. There are some organizations who come up with new concepts, which help them to gain competiti ve advantages over the rest of its competitors, such as Vendor Managed Inventory, Quick Respond manufacturing, Collaborative panning, Forecasting and Replenishment, Continuous Replenishment, Efficient Consumer Response, and Just-in Time Production. It recommended that a few particular best practices relating to the study of fast fashion are: Consumer Demand and Response Supply Chain Just In Time Quick Respond Forecasting and Continuous Replenishment Effective Distribution and Transport System In recent times, Zara, a most important international clothing retailer and break new ground of fast fashion principles, held in reserve almost half of its production in Spain and Portugal, earning the reputation of being one of the exceptions to globalization. Since the 1980s, the subsistence of such exceptions has been fueling an expectation that the manufacture of high-quality fashion garments and tailored suits would stay behind in the industrialized core. Here I return to this anticipation in the brightness of the modern seminal change in the culture of fashion from ready-to-wear to fast fashion, and description that the greater than before multiplicity and fashion capability associated with fast fashion, represented by Zara, have tilted the steadiness of competitive advantage towards, rather than away from, firms in partially industrialized countries. As a number of supplier firms in countries such as Morocco, India and Turkey have gained the competence to manufacture intricate ly worked high-quality garments with the compulsory elasticity and speed, Zara has turned to sourcing from these countries. ZARA The clothing sector is fundamental to the world economy. HISTORY Zara is subsidiary of Inditex group Spanish tycoon Amancio Ortega, owns the Inditex group and Inditex group owns the following brands such as Massimo Dutti, Pull and Bear, Oysho, Uterqà ¼e, Stradivarius and Bershka. Amancio Ortega is well known Galician fashion designer. According to Forbes ranking in 2009 Amancio Ortega was ranked as 10th richest man in world and top Ranked as a richest man in Spain. He was born on March 28, 1936 in Leon, Spain. He started working as delivery boy when he was 13 year old for a shirt-maker in Galicia. During the learning period of his carrier, he realize and learned the how product and cost changes. While travelling from manufacturer to the customer. In addition, the outcome was he become more focused on the importance of getting product directly to the consumer without middle man. When he become manager of local clothing company that time he found that only wealthy individuals could afford to purchase qualitative product. Therefore, Ortega started manufacturing his own product. He started buying cheaper fabric and selling good quality. Amancio Ortega founded his own company called Confecciones Goa at the age of 27, in 1963. Especially for fine bathrobes. After that, he continued manufacturing his own companies, then open first retail shop in 1975 known as Zara. ZARA started changing the design, manufacturing and distribution process to reduce lead times and react to new trends in a quicker way that was there plus point, called instant fashions. (Chiara Pirone,2010) Product Life Cycle The product life cycle ideally follows four main steps: Birth Growth Maturity Decline Generally, a typical Product Life Cycle Curve looks like the one given in the diagram where Sales decreases as the product moves over the time line. Zaras product life cycle also follows the four basic steps but the timeline of the product in the life cycle is very different. The organization operates in fashion industry and the changes pertaining to consumers taste is very high. Therefore, the life of the trend or design is of maximum 5-6 weeks. The following figure depicts the Zaras product life cycle. Key Factors of Success The organization focuses on following factors which are their success factors: They have short lead time i.e. the clothes stay in the store for less time which in turn provides them opportunity with more and more fashionable clothes. They manufacture clothes in low quantity and supply them scarcely which clearly states that the demand for the clothes is always high. Due to short lead time they can manufacture variety of choices, variety of styles and the success ratio increases. RATE OF PRODUCT CHANGES IN FAST FASHION FOR EXAMPLE ZARA: Zara can move from recognizing a trend to including clothes in its stores within 30 days, it means that Zara can identify and catch fashion trend. Catching fashion until the time it is hot is a clear happening at full prices and less discounts. Zara progresses in stair with its customers. Zaras machinery can respond to the statement right away and 51produce a response in conditions of a new style or a modification within 2-4 weeks. By dropping the amount manufactured in each style, Zara decreases its exposure to any particular product. The additional advantage of lower quantities is that if a style does not work well, there wills minimum stock to disposed during the season-end sale. Zara discounts only about 18% of its making, approximately half the levels of competitors. Instead of additional quantities per style, Zara produces extra styles, roughly 12,000 a year. So, that style sells out more fast and there are more new styles which are already waiting to come out. Re-orders are un usual the stores look fresh every 3-4 days. Fresh manufacture, moving in step with the fashion trend and updated regularly the ingredients are just right to create the sweet smell of success. Fast Fashion strategy in Zara: Zara typically has three sections women wear, men wear and kids wear. Most of its stores were located on downtown in big cities and were characterized by large windows with modest fittings. The company position itself as contemporary fashion of medium quality at a good price(Dandrea and Arnold,2002). In order to take extra market shares in such a full of rivalry situation, Zara introduced sequential policy of way of products: Convert latest fashion into products quickly and completely in order to satisfy consumers. Zara gets a competitive advantage by offering customer stylish clothes at inexpensive prices. A team of 200 designers is accountable for turning the latest fashion into products. The collection was converted every year with 11,000 dissimilar items. In order to collect the latest fashion information, the company employed a team of trend-spotters, who travel around the world in search of new designs (Dandrea and Arnold,2002). Thus, Zaras products are suitable for consumers vary different background and taste. Continue to introduction new products in small quantities, ironically in very high speed. New products were trialed at certain stores before entering full-run production to keep failures in the full range at a rate of 1 %( Dandrea and Arnold,2002). Reduce the usual cost associated with running out of any particular item. Because the company believes that empty racks do not drive customers to other stores while stimulating them to choose from new things. Furthermore, consumers will buy more and immediately due to rapidly changing trends. As a result, Zara has increased sales and avoided costly overproduction. Zara would plan a core collection each season, constituting approximately 50% of its forecast requirements. The remaining 50%, some 10,000 items, were sourced opportunistically according to demand trends during the season and could be at any store in two weeks. Some accessories such as handbags, jewelry, shoes, thus increasing sales. CONCLUSION Zara has up and down integrated all its processes. By applying a fast fashion strategy, Zara have accomplished a unexpected increase in profits and market share. By accept the fast fashion strategy the company has been able to decrease its make down sale to 15 to 20%. In contrast, the traditional industrys average is 30 to 40%. It has been examined to be the best way to help organization achieve competitive advantages. Such best performs help Zara establish an extraordinary supply chain and become the leader of in supply chain management. The practice of implementation of fast fashion has a few advantages Quick response, reduced account and forecasting, errors, shortened lead times and reduced transportation costs. In few years, as other main competitors such as GAP, HM , Marks Spencer (MS) have experienced a difficult period due to low income and with drawls from overseas markets, Zara has maintained a continual growth in sales.

Hardware Justification Essay

This is the system that the computer runs on and it is required of me to run MS Access 2003. Even though the latest operating system available is Windows Vista, I would recommend using Windows XP Professional because it is much more cost effective and does exactly what is required by MS Access 2003, allowing it to run as it should and as is required. My business plans on getting this system at as low costs as possible and by getting XP instead of Vista, it will reduce the costs. It costs; i 428. 99 including VAT and shipping from Dell: http://configure. euro. dell. com/dellstore/config. aspx? oc=d045001&c=uk&l=en&s=dhs&cs=ukdhs1&kc=segtopic~winxp_inspndt RAM (Random access memory) RAM helps the database to work at an acceptable speed and I recommend 64MB of RAM as the system will need plenty of memory for storing its data, if a Windows XP operating system is used, as my end user also needs the database to work fast for the business to function efficiently. Hard Drive The only use for the computer is to run MS Access 2003 and other Microsoft applications such as word processing as well as internet explorer/email, so there is no need to buy a hard drive with an excessive amount of storage which won’t be used, this would increase the price of the computer. The hard drive which comes with the Dell computer contains 160GB which will be plenty for the company to store all of there important files. Monitor. The monitor included in the sale of the Dell computer is a 17†³ flat screen monitor, this will be the perfect size for the staff at the company because they will have no problems reading off from it, the monitor displays information in colour also making it easily viewed and allowing people to appreciate the format and style of the new system. Keyboard and Mouse The keyboard and mouse included in the price of the Dell computer will be perfectly fine for the company to use as they are Dell’s own brand; the mouse is responsive and has a laser movement feature as opposed to a roller ball which is less responsive. The keyboard will also function effectively for the company as needed. Software The software I require is Microsoft Access, although there are many versions of this from the different years. The very latest version of the software is 2007 but I think it would be more effective for the company to purchase the 2003 version as this is the version it will be created on. Also purchasing a earlier version will be more cost effective for the company, Access is included in the Microsoft Office Professional Software alongside word, publisher, excel etc. Processor The processor used by the Dell PC is; Intel(r) Celeron(r) 420 Processor (1. 6GHz,800MHz,512k cache) which again will be plenty for the company to run the programs which they need as these programs do not take up so much space to store and run meaning that a faster processor wouldn’t affect their operating speed too much.

Leadership Styles Influence Nursing Shortage - 1283 Words

Leadership styles influence nursing shortage and nurse turn-over The health care sector all over the world has been experiencing this problem over the years. While there are several factors that contributes to this, management has a role in this situation. Organizations employ managers in order to keep the organization running with the available resources. Their unique role demands the requisite skills to find the balance between the goals of the organization and the welfare of their subordinates. One thing that is certain is that these problems have several contributing factors which makes it more challenging to find an ultimate solution. However, this paper will explore a few areas such as some relating theories, in addition to the roles, skills of the manager and how they influence nursing shortage and nurse turn-over (staff shortage and turn-over). According to theorists there are several theories that may be found in a leader. The first being a group called trait theories. These include â€Å"trust, curiosity, and integrity† (Huber, 2014). Over time some researchers have concluded that leaders become what they are with time and experience. A leader who is curious will always seek to ask â€Å"why†, â€Å"how† and â€Å"where†. This attitude prevents complacency, and drives them to find solutions to existing and potential problems. The second one is called attitudinal theory. This involves three components psychomotor, affective and cognitive. What Is the Definition of a Combustion Reaction

A combustion reaction is a type of chemical reaction in which a compound and an oxidant are reacted to produce heat and a new product. The general form of a combustion reaction can be represented by the reaction between a hydrocarbon and oxygen, which yields carbon dioxide and water: hydrocarbon O2  Ã¢â€ â€™ CO2   H2O In addition to heat, its also common (although not necessary) for a combustion reaction to release light and produce a flame. For a combustion reaction to begin, the activation energy for the reaction must be overcome. Often, combustion reactions begin with a burning match or another flame, which provides the heat needed to initiate the reaction. Once combustion starts, enough heat might be produced to sustain the reaction until it runs out of either fuel or oxygen. Combustion Reaction Examples Examples of combustion reactions include: 2 H2   O2  Ã¢â€ â€™ 2H2O heatCH4   2 O2  Ã¢â€ â€™ CO2   2 H2O heat Other examples include lighting a match or a burning campfire. To recognize a combustion reaction, look for oxygen in the reactant side of the equation and the release of heat on the product side. Because it isnt a chemical product, heat isnt always shown. Sometimes the fuel molecule also contains oxygen. A common example is ethanol (grain alcohol), which has the combustion reaction: C2H5OH 3 O2  Ã¢â€ â€™ 2 CO2   3 H2O
